10 Essential Oils for Great Skin
Essential oils bear concentrated amounts of oil distilled from leaves and consequently are extremely strong. Most should be feeble in diluted construct with carrier, or base oils, such as olive, almond, sesame or wheat germ oil. Essential Oils should never go in the eyes. Before using necessary oil to perfect the texture, condition, and tone of your skin, gather into a habit of exfoliating regularly. You can mix up a sugar and olive oil scrub in your kitchen and let those granules slough away dead skin cells. Or, grab a loofah or exfoliating mitt available at any bath and body store. Here’s how to expend oils to treat your skin.
1. Lemongrass — When making a sugar scrub for exfoliating your face, add 5 to 10 drops of lemongrass critical oil to a half cup of sugar and a fourth cup of oil olive. Extra oils can be added to catch the scrub to the consistency you like.
I’ve found lemongrass to be great for keeping my skin clear of acne and my pores tight. Lemongrass is a natural astringent and its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties zap the germs that cause zits.
After scrubbing, wipe the face with a warm, wet face towel for dewy soft skin.
2. For aching and itchy skin on your feet, make an essential oil foot soak with Tea Tree oil. Tea Tree Oil is known for its robust anti-fungal properties and will cure any Athlete’s Foot you might have picked up by exercising at the gym. In a small tub pour a cup or two of Epsom salt along with 10 drops of tea tree oil. Not only will you relieve your feet and kill toenail fungus, you’ll likely open up any sinuses and purify the air — yes, tea tree oil is just that strong!
3. Don’t forget the scalp should be a part of your skin care regimen as well Once or twice a week, mix between 2 and 10 drops of Rosemary essential oil with a carrier oil (I expend deep penetrating emu oil) and do a scalp massage. Rosemary has long been known to cure dry and flaky scalp. It promotes hair growth as well.
If massages are too cumbersome, mix a few drops of rosemary in a spray bottle with distilled water and spray on the scalp and hair nightly.
4. Bathe in Grapefruit or Juniper essential oils to detoxify the body, tighten cellulite on your legs, and soothe skin all over. Unlike other oils, essential oils penetrate beyond the epidermis. They penetrate so deeply that they can actually enter the bloodstream. Well-known oils on the bottom of one’s foot can even pull toxins out of the body.
Plug the tub and run a hot bath. In a bowl, shake in a cup of sea salt and then pour 10 to 15 drops of grapefruit indispensable oil.. Heck, uses both oils and add 10 to 15 drops of juniper as well. Mix, then pour into the bath water.
Sink into the tub and let the steam cause you to inhale the oils for deep detox. After you bath, you’ll feel tingly, soothed, and smooth.
Juniper is often praised for reducing cellulite, so over time this regime can promote smoother legs.
5. When you’re feeling hot and exhausted, shower and mix a few drops of Peppermint essential oil into a few tablespoons of lotion or carrier oil. Smoothing this all over the body will have an immediate cooling effect on your skin. Blame it on the menthol. It will also cure dull skin. Because peppermint oil is a astringent, it will also alleviate any oiliness. But be careful, once I used way too much for several days and it became a bit drying.
6. Lavender Oil. Try steaming the face with a few drops of lavender oil. I personally use the Caruso Hair Steamer and add a few drops of oil into the water container. However, you can also boil water on a stove in a pot and then add five or more drops of Lavender significant oil into the water. Put the pot on the table and hold your face over it for 10 minutes or longer. Drape a large towel over your head and the pot to keep the steam from escaping into the atmosphere. The benefits? Skin as soft as butter, with dirt purged!
This is the best smelling significant oil and is also known for healing depression. As it relates to skin, the University of Maryland Medical Center recently reported that wounds, skin lesions, and scaliness can be cured by lavender oil.
7. Who needs perfume when there’s Vanilla distinguished oil. This aroma is sweet and feminine. In an empty spray bottle, add distilled water and 10 drops of vanilla oil. Spritz it all over you, not only after a shower, but after getting a bit sweaty during the day when you don’t have time to go home and refresh. The Vanilla Oil will freshen your skin, add a bit a moisture, absorb oiliness and sweat and have you smelling mammoth!
It’s my popular fragrance — and tends to relieve my stress to boot. Who can be frazzled when they are smelling like vanilla?
8. Get your hands ready for a manicure by soaking them in a bowl of warm water spiked with sandalwood essential oils and patchouli essential oils. Unsightly dry cracked skin around the nail beds — which we all get through regular housecleaning and dishwashing– can lead to bacteria that weakens nails. The sandalwood and patchouli bath will make your cuticles and hands still and healthy again as well as strengthen your nails so they won’t chip and break.
9. Plump up wrinkly skin with a homemade hand oil anchored on Frankincense and Rosewood necessary oils. Add a few drops of these oils to a carrier oil like almond oil or jojoba oil. Pierce a Vitamin E capsule and add that too.
This oil is most effective on wrinkles when stale on wet skin.
10. When shaving, reduce rashes and nicks on your legs or bikini area by adding any essential oil, such as clove and lime, into your shaving cream or lotion. This will reduce the tendency toward abrasions, resulting in a more comfortable shave. The same essential oils can be used afterward — in a lotion, never alone — for silky skin. If you end up nicking yourself anyway, Clove essential oil is substantial for healing scrapes and skin sores anywhere. Lime oil will not only help cool and soothe your skin after shaving …. but if you ever get an insect bite, its works wonders on that as well.
