Sure, most of these ill effects are relatively weak, but it’s always a great idea to know all about the possible problems involved before you book yourself in for that whitening session. So, read on to find out more…

All About What You Need To Know About Professional Whitening

Teeth Bleaching can improve the hue of your smile by a number of degrees, and this is commonly achieved with either a bleaching session from your dentist, or by using DIY whitening products.

Both of these techniques are free of risk to use and there are no potential health problems involved. But, there are a few tooth bleaching ill effects that you have to know about before you get bleaching. If you have a pre-existing oral issue, make sure you consult your dentist before you book yourself in for a whitening treatment.

Teeth sensitivity Problems

Whether you’re having your teeth bleached by a dental practitioner or if you’re using a Do It Yourself toothpaste treatment, you may have some tooth sensitivity. You’ll find that during your treatment your teeth may slightly tingle.

This is often quite an odd sensation that’s painless. But, if you do feel some soreness during or after your treatment, don’t be afraid as this is very normal. The discomfort will often be very slight, and in most cases it will only last between 24 – 48 hours tops.

Whether you’re using a DIY pack, or you’ve opted for a dentist whitening, ensure that you stop the treatments or tell your dentist if you’re experiencing excessive discomfort. It’s usually those that have sensitive teeth that are the worst affected by bleaching sessions.

Professional dental and home packs

There is quite a big difference between the types of bleach you’ll find at your local dentist and those that are used in a home bleaching pack. Your dental practitioner will be using a much more powerful peroxide whitening solution, and the DIY products will commonly use a gentler diluted gel.

As you would have guessed, it’s the stronger peroxide agents that are the ones that cause the more severe teeth whitening side effects. Whilst the gentler home belching strips will rarely cause any pain during or after a session. But, remember… even using the mildest whitening toothpaste with a silicone abrasive can cause sensitivity problems. Abrasives will help to remove external darkening, but if an abrasive is too powerful, it may also encourage the enamel to wear away.

The professional whitening and laser sessions on offer at your dentist can often have a drying effect on your smile and cause more sensitivity to the gums. Again, this is only short lived, and your teeth will be re-hydrated after only just a few hours.

Uneven bleaching

Another common problem effect from teeth whitening is uneven whitening. This is most commonly caused with Do It Yourself whitening products. When you’re doing it yourself, you may find that it’s hard to cover all of your teeth evenly with your chosen bleaching agent.

In addition, bleaching whitening strips may not be big enough for your teeth, and you could wind up with parts of your mouth that are not correctly exposed to the gel. So, always ensure that the whole of your mouth is covered for a uniform bleaching.

If you currently have existing dental work such as crowns etc. you may find that these areas of your smile are not changed by the bleach, and you could be left with what is known as a techni-colour mouth. The difference in colour is usually only very slight, and in most cases it’s hardly noticeable.
