The Tale of 2 Islands
There once was an ocean side town called Port Town that was temporarily abandoned by humans due to an economic depression. Most of the things in the town were just locked up and left behind as the people who use to live there moved away to look for a better life. Five miles off the coast sat 2 islands, each a mile apart from the other. One island had lush green grass and numerous pine trees that could bare pine cones and acorns due to their hybrid species.
On this forest island lived only mammals most of which are Western Gray Squirrels. Eurasian Otters also nested on the forest island. The other island was a sandy plantless island with many rocks big and small. Only reptiles could inhabit this island with a harsh geography. Both islands are seen from the air as looking round and each a mile in diameter. Snakes and large lizards maybe friends with the Green Sea Turtles that live around their island but they hunt mackerels as part of their notable diet.
On the forest island a young gray squirrel named Squall wakes up in the morning and heads toward the tallest pine tree in the center. When he arrived at the trunk he looked up and thought to himself, “This could be quite a morning exercise, but I’ve done this before and I want to know today.” Squall began climbing the tree driven by the thirst for knowledge he seeked. The tree was 100 feet high and all squrriels refer to it as headquarters. Galthos, an old Big Horned Owl lives in a hollow section near the top. At the top was Sentry Point. Any animal that could make it that high could see the entire island from there as well as a portion of the desert island.
When Squall made it to Galthos’ room he said, “Good morning wise owl. Can you tell me why acorns grow on these pine trees? ” He then replied modestly, “These trees are hybrids. The tree we are standing in was the first one. Its seed came from Port Town many years ago when biological testing were practiced by humans. The seed was stolen from their laboratory by a sparrow. The bird then tried to eat it but it was too hard. The sparrow then dropped it in mid-flight and the seed happend to land where we are now. The acorns you eat preserve you squrriels healthy and make your teeth white instead of the natural yellow. I however reflect it is an appearance improvement.”
Squall then said, “These acorns aren’t hard. The Italian Sparrows and the White Doves that live on this island enjoy them too. We can be glad that is wasn’t like the first seed.” While the 2 of them were admiring the sunrise view they had from the hollow, Shade, a male sparrow look returns from his night mission. Shade then explains, “Galthos, you seem to be the closest thing to a leader around here. You and the other owls get the word out. I have discoverd that over on the desert island, the fish food source is becoming scarce for them. Coast Garter Snakes have been riding the sea turtles all the way to the mainland and aid to score supplies and materials from the abandoned shops. The desert island leader is a King Cobra named Narzeth. He plans to have his army invade us in a month!”
Galthos then steadily said, “Good work Shade. I’ll have the adult gray squirrels ride the otters to the mainland to gather the things we need for our defense. Hopefully they won’t urge into the snakes while they are in Port Town or our secret advantage would be lost. Squall, you and the other young adults will join the 9-banded Armadillos in digging a trench along the beach head that faces the opposing island.”
As the critical month passes Squall could witness North American Porcupines training to fling their quills at various distances so they can help defend against the invaders. The doves were learning how to use the new medical supplies they have so they can be efficient paramedics. Squall soon received his new petite rapier and longbow. They were standard equipment for all gray squirrels. He practiced with them routinely.
All the mammals on the island knew that the reptiles were getting just as prepared. One afternoon Squall saw a dozen otters haul a rowboat to the island shore filled with equipment and items. Orla, a female otter who returned with the group, asked Squall out for dinner. As both of them sat by a fire that night and ate cooked mackerel on a stick Orla starts to explain, “This fire took quite some time for you to initiate with 2 sticks Squall. We brought back barrels of gasoline today. If you use that it would start faster. Miniature catapult parts have also been brought back from toy stores. You and the other gray squirrels probably have orders to begin assembly tomorrow. The pine cones will be soaked in fuel and are to become flaming and explosive catapult projectiles.”
After Squall swallowed some of his food he replied, “I saw that the team has also brought back fire extinguishers. That’s good because we live in a forest.” The next day Squall and his fellow gray squirrels spent most of the day assembling catapults in various positions. A few of them were on the beach behind the trench but most of them were up on the tree branches. That night Squall was listening to an owl explaining some battle strategies to the gray squirrels and down from the sky came a male Northern Flying Squirrel named Oliver.
The little guy then said, “Good evening Squall. My name is Oliver. I’m here to get a scoop of some strategies. We can only carry a longbows with us since an additional rapier would make us too heavy for flight.” Squall then replied, “You guys are lucky to be able to go from tree to tree so quickly.” The next day Squall and the other Western Gray Squirrels began making their quivers and sheathes with leaves and super glue as well as transforming some of their arrows into flame shots by glueing matches on them.
The latter allotment of the day everyone was glueing metal bottle caps together to make portable round shields. Three weeks have passed and everyone was being trained on how to consume the new miniature C.B. radio and microphone. It was still titanic enough that only selected gray squirrels and armadillos had to carry them around. Squall and another girl gray squirrel called Kelly had fun playing with the new toy radio all day.
The next morning Squall and his friend Mesler, a squirrel just like him attended advance training. Mesler had his smile as they were approaching the instructor. He then says to Squall, “What luck that our group will be taught by Galthos today!” Squall then replied, “I think he is wise and will give us the best advice.” As the 2 of them looked around they were surprised to see numerous odd machines everywhere and some even glued on armadillo backs.
Galthos begins to speak, “This machine on tripods here was once a miniature steel die-cast model. It is called a M2 .50 Caliber Browning Machine Gun. Our brillant gray squirrel engineers has customized it with deadly efficiency. It is a lot heavier than the radio pack and can only be stationary, on armadillo, or carried from place to place by a group of gray squirrels. It is powered by a PP3 9-volt battery that allows it to fire 5 rounds per second.”
Throughout the day everyone was practicing with it. During practice Shade came to Galthos and said, “It is too dangerous for me to spy anymore. Last night I was on a mission with my younger sister Telia. Those reptiles still have good inspect at night and they saw us. The only lucky thing was that we both look more like food of opportunity than spys. Anyway, arrows flew at us. I was surprised because all the longbows I witness here could never reach that height. I suspect they have crossbows due to the slow rate of fire and that snakes wouldn’t be able to use a longbow anyway.
Unfortunately Telia was hit in the gizzard when we were escaping the island. She told me to leave her and that there was no hope. Her last words were that she felt the poison arrow draining life. I’m sure even if I helped her to our island it would be too late. I then saw her tumble into the sea. Her body floated a little then Olive Sea Snakes devoured her.”
Galthos then replied, “Poison arrows and sea snakes eh? Our soldiers and otters will be warned.” Shade then continued his characterize, “On this mission I saw none of their secret operations. They probably have the manufacturing done on the far side of the island and I can never risk going that far. I saw however that there are divisions consisting of Eastern Coral Snakes, Komodo Dragons, Timber Rattlesnakes, Green Anacondas, Royal Pythons and Gila Monsters.” Mesler then begins to say, “I have no doubt that most of them probably know how to utilize the miniature crossbow by now.”
Galthos’ reply was, “We are facing a formidable opponent. If there is any chance for peace, action must be taken now. I will send Darla the diplomatic dove to negotiate a truce. Her diplomacy skills are quite impressive.” “I’m not sure a seductive converse and big dove breasts might work on Narzeth.” Oliver joked as he flew in.
Kelly then joined and said, “I reflect Narzeth is with a Queen Cobra. I mean that’s what they call the King Cobras that are born female.” “When they’re born isn’t it more like prince or princess cobras? ” Oliver joked again. A few days later Clark, a male gray squirrel chats with Squall, “It has been 2 days too long since Darla left. Everyone on this island is anxious and concerned for her.” Squall’s reply was, “There is a full moon tonight maybe she will return before we go to sleep. If she does we might be the first ones to see with these.”
Squall holds up his miniature binocular. The binoculars were now standard equipment for most gray squirrels. As Clark and Squall sat next to their campfire and gazed at the stars and the moon with their new scopes a tranquil buzzing sound can be heard from the distance. Squall then says, “That buzzing is getting louder. Let’s exhaust our scopes and try to locate it.” The 2 squirrels had no luck, but an owl at the Sentry Point who also faded binoculars saw something and she flipped the ON switch for a noise box.
Soon everyone on the island could hear the klaxon wail. After a miniature the buzzing sound began to disappear into the distance and the siren ceased. Galthos flew to the beach and a lot of animals gathered around him. He then says, “Calm down everyone the danger is gone for now. I believe it was unprejudiced a message from the reptiles.” Zenna, a female gray squirrel struggles pass the crowd with a tall sack. Zenna was heading for Galthos and his campfire to show everyone bad news.
She then says to the surrounding animals, “That buzzing beast came from the desert island and it dropped this!” Zenna held the sack upside down and out poured skeletal remains and a ticket. Galthos then says, “My goodness! This looks like Darla!” Zenna began to read the note to everyone and Squall held the mic discontinuance to her so everyone in the tree city who has a C.B. Radio could hear this.
Zenna then read, “Foolish mammals. Your diplomat has exposed you of spying when she asked for peace without war. The only plot she could possibly know we were planning a war is if your spies overheard us. We do not give peace to those who watch on us. We, however thank you for the royal dove feast. The leftovers from our meal and this stamp written in her blood should warn you to surrender your island to us immediately upon our next arrival. We know that mackerel is plentiful there and is scarce where we are. You mammals could also be a fine treat for us as well. This sack will be dropped off by one of our finest war machines. The runt steel die-cast model of an Albatros D.5 biplane, customized for war. That should be enough to strongly encourage your surrender. Signed, your soon to be new master, Narzeth.”
Galthos then took the mic from Squall to do an announcement to the citizens. The old owl then says, “Have no fear my fellow citizens! We had hoped that we wouldn’t have to come to this but it looks like we have no choice. I now call on all our engineers to put their skills to the max. We had held back View B all this time in hope of peace. But now we can open our boxes of miniature die-cast steel models. I am proud to announce that work on the fresh Nieuport 28 biplanes will begin immediately! They can achieve a max accelerate of up to 60 miles per hour! This will match the speed of the plane we saw tonight!”
Anyone who had the ability to build joined the engineers and had around the clock shifts. There was a lot of work on the planes. The same went for the 2 Vickers machine guns that were mounted on top of each plane above the engine and tedious the propeller. Squirrels, porcupines, and armadillos alike worked fiercely 24/7. None of them however had 7 days. It would take at least a week before even one Nieuport could fly.
Unfortunately, in 3 days Narzeth led 4 other King Cobras to search for a white flag. All of them were in black D.5s and all of them armed with 2 Spandau machine guns each. The guns would be in the same positions as the Nieuports. The engine of a D.5 were powered by a PP3, the same goes for each gun. It was the same electrical as the Nieuports. The mammals anticipated that after the diplomat was killed the reptiles will shorten their invasion time from an entire month. All partially assembled biplanes were built in underground caves where a lot of gasoline drums were stored. Neither of them must be hit in case there was a raid, and that day there was a raid at dawn.
It has been a long night for Squall since he was preparing the Nieuports. He awoke to the air raid klaxon bellow and was not too surprised. He was anxious at what the reptiles will throw at the island today. Squall looked out from the cave with binoculars and saw in the distance 5 enemy biplanes. Narzeth could soon see with his own binoculars that there was no white flag. Not even on Sentry Point. He then signaled the other pilots by tapping on his J-38 straight key. All reptiles have mastered the Morse code language as preparation for the invasion.
No mammals understood the code by listening so reptile strategies cannot be overheard. The other D.5s received the signal from their beeping radios and simultaneously fell behind him in a line. Then all 5 of them simultaneously push their planes in full throttle giving them maximum hasten, fixed their goggles and lock and load their guns. Narzeth then took a deep breath and held his flight stick firmly with his tail as he prepares for his first battle.
Narzeth then taps to assign callsigns with him being Cobra 1 and the last in line to be Cobra 5. WOOSH. WOOSH. The D.5s soon saw incoming flaming pine cones. Since they were catapulted it was not hard for them to dodge. FIZZ. FIZZ. The pine cones extinguished as they miss and land in the water. BOOM! BOOM! As the planes got closer to the island flaming pine cone flak was used and the fire balls started to blow up in mid-air.
Narzeth pitched up on his flight stick to increase altitude and the others followed. WHAM! Flak explodes above Cobra 2 dealing damage. Cobra 4 then said to himself, “Those mammals must be new at this. They should have weak flak from the beginning instead of starting with artillery against biplanes.” Soon the flak ceased as the biplanes flew out of the catapults effective range. While on the beach Squall scurried to a 50cal and rushed to get it ready as the planes neared. A bunch of armadillos surrounded Squall and created a double stack barrier for him, as if they were sand bags.
Squall swiftly lock and load the PP3 battery and did the same for the ammo belt. He then scrunched up leisurely the gun. THUMP-THUMP-THUMP. His heart pounded as he waited for the planes to come within firing range. Narzeth knew Spandaus could fire 5 rounds per second but he had never spied on the opposing island and was not distinct what to expect. TET-TET-TET-TET! Narzeth’s burst of bullets flew toward Squall’s position but the armadillos’ special armor polish stopped them although they had to take slight injury themselves. Confident he was in range Squall bursted bullets toward the closest plane. TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR!
Sparks flew as Narzeth was hit and some damage was done. Cobra 2 and 3 went after the 50cals while 4 and 5 went after the catapults. Narzeth went after the hollows in the trees attempting to kill the residents inside. TET-TET-TET-TET! A hail of shells shredded a beach catapult and the male gray squirrel manning it. From a branch Oliver fires his longbow and many other flying squirrels followed. WHISH-WHISH-WHISH-WHISH!
Arrows pinged off Cobra 3 doing little hurt. One gray squirrel on top of a tree shot a flaming arrow missing Cobra 3, but allowed Cobra 4 to easily trace the flame shot. Cobra 4 decided to use his crossbow and shot the squirrel through the mouth. Squall kept bursting but mostly missed because the planes were too far inland. Sparrows then hoisted him in a basket to the top of a expansive tree where he mans another 50cal on a branch. Squall uses a nearby C.B. and yells, “Soldiers on the beach! Go to higher ground! The biplanes are inland!”
TET-TET-TET-TET! Cobra 5 sprays bullets destroying a branch catapult and 2 male gray squirrels. TET-TET-TET-TET-TET! Narzeth rains in 2 hollows destroying some food supplies in one and killing 3 female owls in the other. TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR! A 50cal shoots from a hollow toward Narzeth and does some damage. He quickly pitches his plane and retaliates with bullets killing the machine gun and its crew of 4 male sparrows in the hollow. TET-TET-TET-TET-TET! Cobra 2 then lets loose a accurate stream of bullets which eliminates a 50cal and the female armadillo carrying it.
TET-TET-TET-TET! Narzeth guns down 2 male owls as they skim for cover. WHISH-WHISH-WHISH! All flying squirrels shot flaming arrows, most missing but some doing damage to Cobra 5. TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR! A beach 50cal shoots at Cobra 2 doing damage but then is returned by the targets’ shells which kills the male porcupine manning it, a nearby catapult, and a male dove tending to a wounded male flying squirrel who died also. TET-TET-TET-TET! Cobra 3 opens fire and hits 7 gray squirrels in the trench but 1 survives because she held up her bottle caps shield in time. TET-TET-TET-TET! Bullets from Cobra 4 nick up a branch catapult as well as a female gray squirrel hiding underneath it.
TET-TET-TET! Cobra 5 kills a male gray squirrel running on the beach with his radio pack. On a branch, Squall and the 50cal streams at Narzeth as he is flying by. TUR-TUR-TUR! Most bullets hit and he takes damage. While the other biplanes were doing destruction elsewhere Narzeth makes a deadly pass at a dormitory hollow and strikes 4 college gray squirrels. BOOM! A pine cone flak is catapulted and explodes near Cobra 2 doing damage. A gray squirrel is catapulted and attacks Cobra 3′s lower right wing with a passing rapier crop. This does some damage.
An armadillo is catapulted and strikes Cobra 4 in the propeller as a ball. This also does distress. Porcupines fling their quills at Cobra 5, some missing and others doing minute injure. TUR-TUR-TUR! A male dove shoots a 50cal at Cobra 5 damaging its landing gear. TET-TET-TET-TET-TET! A steady stream from all 5 planes annihilates a dozen armadillos huddling together as balls. Narzeth’s 3 batteries were half empty as it showed on his dial gauge.
Believing that his group has done adequate damage he taps orders for eveyone to return to base. Once the planes left the klaxon stopped wailing and the weapons stopped firing. Doves snappily moved to tend to the wounded. Armadillos began burial preparations for the cemetary inside the island. Gray Squirrels, including the flying ones made a damage assessment. The otters, who avoided the battle earlier came support to save out fires by using the extinguishers.
The fires started when catapult ammunition was hit. The porcupines and sparrows however were in the caves putting the finishing touches on the Nieuport 28s so the island would not have to suffer the same fate it did today. Meanwhile Squall was at his hollow trying to finish his studies by reading the flight manual. After his study session he called on his C.B. to check whether his 4 fellow classmates were still alive. Squall’s class consisted of himself, Kelly, Mesler, Clark, and Zenna.
Galthos saw promise in these 5 and gave them the flight manuals. This judgement made by Galthos resulted from his observation of all squirrels over time. He chose the ones that have displayed good performance in life. Squall says on the mic, “This is Squall. I hope my 4 classmates are still alive. If you guys get my message, meet me at my place.” In a few minutes all 5 gathered in the tree hollow and ate some acorns. Mesler then says, “I got word that the planes will be ready for test flying and training tomorrow.” Kelly replies, “Obliging. I know today wasn’t the last we leer of those reptiles.” Clark then says, “I heard from some owls that the damage we did to them today will take at least a week to repair.”
Zenna then begins to say, “That might be true Clark, some flying squirrel girls told me that the snakes probably don’t have any more new planes ready yet.” Squall finishes the conversation by saying, “Alright everyone let’s get some sleep. We have a big day tomorrow.” The next morning all 5 of them reported on time to the beach where they saw the completed green planes. The Nieuports were the same size as the D.5s, having a wingspan of 6 feet. They were also 6 ft. from propeller tip to tail end. They looked around and saw that the wounded have all been taken to the hospital tree and the dead buried. Repairs of damaged equipment was still underway. The equipment that was completely destroyed had to be remanufactured. Galthos was there to recognize them off. Squall was the first to hold off and the others followed.
They practiced manuvers and shot at empty soda cans on the beach which were archaic as targets. The pilots were glad that their guns could also shoot 5 rounds per second. They also tried out the onboard C.B. radio. After one week of preparation, everyone on the island was more prepared than ever before with the previous battle fresh on their minds.
Narzeth, this time confident the spirit of his opponents have been stomped returned with 4 female cobras in training in the now repaired D.5s. There were 2 Indian Cobras and 2 Egyptian Cobras with him this time. The snakes expected to see a white flag of surrender this time but instead got pine cone flak. This time Narzeth believed it was a desperate attempt by the few remaining catapults. He taps his orders to the other pilots to follow him and finish off the catapults. Flak did diminutive afflict to Narzeth, but for the wearisome to react trainees they took more harm.
When the mid-air explosions stopped, all the snakes believed they were soon coming within 50cal range. The D.5s reduced their altitude and got ready to hit any beach 50cals. With the noon sunlight to their advantage Squall and the others dived down from above on the unsuspecting cobras. Each Nieuport chose a separate target and Vickers fire opened, TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT! After the D.5s take damage they pitched up and engaged their opponents. A dogfight began to brew off the coast. One Indian Cobra tried to keep to her orders and heads out of the scuffle to attack the catapults. When she got closer to the beach she was met with relentless 50cal fire all focused on her, TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR!
She turns befriend but takes harm, especially to her landing gear. TET-TET-TET-TET! An Egyptian Cobra fires at Zenna from above damaging a wing. Zenna rolls out of the way and the cobra ends up face to face with Clark. TET-TUT-TET-TUT!They both shoot, Clark is missed but he damages her landing gear. The other Egyptian Cobra tries to soar back to her island but flies into a restart of flak clouds, BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM! She returns to battle but takes damage to her wings. TET-TET-TET-TET! Narzrth chases Kelly and opens fire damaging her tail shaft as she pitches up sharply. Squall adjust his goggles a little and pursues Narzeth. They both fly parallel to the hover but Narzeth can’t shake Squall. TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT! The Nieuport fires and damage his rudder.
Narzeth quickly whips back his crossbow and TWANG! He shoots, with his rear-view mirror as a guide. CLANG! The hobble hits Squall’s propeller, slowing him down. Narzeth tightens his seatbelt and flips the plane for a 180. As he passes over Squall upside down, he slashes between the Nieuport’s skim with his katana. After the pass Squall takes off his seatbelt turns his body around and TWING! He shoots his longbow with a fire shot. This misses Narzeth but hits his gauges. While the 2 were making their arrangement back to the scuffle, an Indian Cobra shoots at Mesler’s behind and damages 1 of 4 ailerons.
Kelly and Zenna swoop up from below the unsuspecting cobra and focus both their fire on a coast. TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT! A hail of bullets tear off the D.5s lower lawful wing and it can barely maneuver. Mesler drifts slowly behind the crippled plane and a burst of Vickers shreds the tail. With her plane disabled she jumps out and into the water to swim home. Mesler whips around his body, takes aim with his longbow and shoots the cobra through the hood and neck. The D.5 crashes into the water and the cobra floats lifelessly in her own blood.
The remaining 4 focus fire on Mesler as he is returning to infamous for repairs, TET-TET-TET-TET! The shots destroy his tail, takes off his upper left wing, severely damages all wing ailerons on the remaining wings, and disables one of his machine guns. Mesler was scrunched at the bottom of his cockpit and was lucky not to get killed. His rearview mirror, seat, seatbelts, gauges, and landing gears were also destroyed. With a severely damaged flight stick Mesler chooses to crash land his plane on the beach.
As the gray squirrel neared the beach all other cobras broke off. But the Indian Cobra was determined to avenge her sister. Mesler turns off the engine and glides toward the coast. He then whips around and use his longbow. TWING! One arrow hit the pursueing cobra’s propeller and slows it down. When Mesler was in range she let loose her Spandaus. TET-TET-TET! He quickly got his bottle cap shield in place and was spared injury. His plane however took more damge and the other upper wing broke off. Blinded by her thirst for revenge she did not notice she was deep in 50cal range and that the Egyptian pilot was continuously tapping for her to turn back.
As Mesler crash lands he jumps out and quickly mans a Browning. All 50cals had aim and let loose their fire. TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR! The D.5′s landing gears were stripped. Both its guns were thrashed. The engine and wings took significant damage. All she could do right now was yaw her rudder and retreat with a smoking engine. The machine gun crews on the ground knew no mercy. TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR! They continuously streamed and her tail was gone. Bullets made their way through the plane and into her lungs and stomach.
She coughed blood on her ruined gauges and slowly keeled over dead. Mesler saw the plane lose control and plunge into the water. All the gun crews cheered. One of the Egyptians does circles around the wreckage hoping her friend would surface alive. Squall swoops down on the cobra and blasts her engine till it explodes. All PP3s blew up killing the Egyptian instantly. That plane soon plummeted into the water as well, in a ball of fire. Kelly, Clark and Zenna pursue the retreating 2 D.5s. TUT-TUT-TUT! A hail of Vickers knock out both D.5s rudder, soar ailerons and tail ailerons. All Nieuports reduced throttle and fell gradual as they knew what was coming. Narzeth and the remaining Egyptian were soon covered with flak bursts, BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
The unskilled Egyptian ends up taking a boom explosion to both left wings. As both wings shear off, the D.5 tumbled into the water. SPLASH! Narzeth would not turn back to save her because there was flak and Nieuports in pursuit. The Egyptian swam for her life helplessly trying to follow Narzeth’s plane. Kelly did the honors and Vickered her thin body. TUT-TUT-TUT! As the Nieuports did a slow skim by they see scalely meat chunks bobbing in a pool of blood.
All planes yawed a 180 with their rudders and returned to base where everyone was already celebrating. After another week there was a surplus of equipment and well trained troops on the mammal island. Narzeth felt humiliated from the previous encounter. He ordered all his forces to follow his repaired plane and blitz the island. This time, his top air aces will escort him. Five D.5s total.
The group included Narzeth, air ace male Egyptian Cobra Calahan, air ace male Indian Cobra Ellison, Narzeth’s wife of a decade Queen Cobra Lelza, and Narzeth’s eldest daughter who everyone on the desert island called Princess. It was high noon, Squall and his squadron were in their contain tree hollows. All of them chatting to numerous friends by way of C.B. Everyone was relaxed from a week without any battles. Narzeth planned to catch the island by surprise, exploiting the mammals overconfidence as their weakness.
When an owl at Sentry Point spotted distant D.5s the klaxon once again wailed. Squall and his squad were too far from the planes. So a group of well trained male gray squirrel pilots who were near the fully repaired Nieuports took flight. These 5 were also chosen by Galthos as backup for Squall’s squadron. Squall and the others eventually made it to the beach airstrip and joined Galthos. Every mammal on the beach could see the engagement off the flit by using binoculars.
The planes did mid-air loops chasing their opponents’ tails and trying to score hits. After a few minutes they saw parts fall off a Nieuport. Everyone felt a little disappointed. The Nieuport who lost the parts soon burst into flames and crashed into the ocean. Many mammals who watched with their binoculars were surprised. Galthos tries to radio them. “What is going on out there!? Over!” There was no response. Then everyone saw both right wings being clipped off another Nieuport. The mammals are beginning to lose confidence as they watch it spin into a watery grave. Galthos radios again. “Are you guys alright? Over!”
Again there was no response. After another cramped a Nieuport could be seen splitting from its tail. Now a lot of mammals felt grief stricken and confused as they watch both halves make a splash. Galthos then orders on the radio. “Get back here! There are only 2 of you left against 5 D.5s! Over!” Once again, there was no response. It seems they got the order though. The last 2 Nieuports attempted to make their way back to base with the D.5s in hot pursuit.
BAM! All the sudden an explosion destroys a beach catapult. Clark yells, “Was that an ammo accident?!” BAM! Another explosion destroys a beach 50cal and the male gray squirrel manning it. Kelly yells, “We’re under fire from shells that are too fast to see!” Oliver then replies as he swoops in, “That’s right! I hear a whoosh before impact!” Shade, who was observing the D.5s with binoculars says, “It doesn’t look like the blasts came from the planes!” BAM! Another explosion blasts a branch off and kills 2 doves who were sitting there.
A porcupine exclaims, “Did you see that! Legal before that explosion I saw a flash from the ocean horizon!” BAM! Another explosion blasts apart a bottle cap shield killing the porcupine bearer and an armadillo near by. One of the Nieuports had engine damage and began to coast. TET-TET-TET! Princess finishes him off and the squirrel is shot to death before his plane crashes in the drink. The last Nieuport sped to the beach. The mammals on the beach finally hear the return C.B. from the last Nieuport.
“We couldn’t respond earlier because we were too busy! You guys better watch out! Most of the boys died from D.5s and miniature M61 Vulcan gatling gun turrents! The explosions you got came from cramped M1905 Howitzers!” The Nieuport moved fastest in a straight line but became an easy target for the normally inaccurate Howitzer. KABOOM! Everyone watched as the last plane was blown to pieces along with the pilot. Squall and his squad quickly rushed to the spare Nieuports.
Armadillos yelled, “Contact!” Then they spun the propellers and the 5 planes took off. Galthos’ continued observation with binoculars which revealed that the cannons and the Vulcans were on tripods that were shipshape glued onto sea turtle backs. It also looks like they were all manned by Coast Garter Snakes. With no Nieuports in the enemy’s range, beach catapults began flinging improper and medium altitude flak. BOOM-BOOM-BOOM! The D.5s assume minor damge as they ascend. On the other hand, 4 Vulcan crews and 2 Howitzer crews were demolished by the mid-air explosions, including the sea turtles.
While everyone was watching in the distance they did not notice Timber Rattlesnakes slipping out of the water and darting quickly to the catapults to disable them. TWANG-TWANG-TWANG! Soon the snakes were noticed when they shot gray squirrels with poisonous crossbows. The squirrels that were killed were manning the catapults. Many gray squirrels shot back with longbows, but snakes are hard to hit. However 7 snakes take arrows to their chests and dies.
Soon the serpents were in melee range. Rapiers and Katanas are drawn as the fate of the beach catapults hang in the balance. The rest of the gray squirrels manning the beach catapults soon lose the duels and are cut down by quickly tail holding katana moves, but the snakes lose 8 of their own. The katanas then slash at vital catapult points which disables the machines and allows the sea turtles to make landing when they come. TUR-TUR-TUR! Guns launch fire on the beach invaders and 12 snakes saw their insides for the last time. The 5 Nieuports were allowed to ignore the disabled catapults. The timbers hid around the catapults and shot at 50cals which kills 6 gray squirrels but the guns are speedy remanned.
TWANG-TWANG! The snakes try to shoot a radio porcupine but she lifts up a bottle caps shield and repels. TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT! The 5 Nieuports rain in on the disabled catapults and shread 15 timbers. Soon Eastern Coral Snakes Slip out of the water and head to capture the 50cals. TWANG-TWANG-TWANG! Their crossbows stop 50cal fire temporarily and kill 9 armadillos. Soon the corals are melee fighting with their katanas against gray squirrels with rapiers. Eventually the beach 50cals were captured but 19 corals tasted rapier steel and perished. Twenty-eight gray squirrels manning the guns were killed by slashes and bites.
The timbers head inland as the corals used the 50cals to distract and damage the Nieuports. With the Nieuports occupied the 5 D.5s flew inland to cause destruction. Another wave of warriors slide out of the water. They consisted of heavily armed Green Anacondas and Royal Pythons. The large snakes attack the trench but felt the burn of flaming arrows that came from the branches and the trench. Four anacondas and 2 pythons are killed. Nevertheless those snakes got to the trench and were able to constrict a group of gray squirrels while dueling others with their katana at the same time. Porcupines and armadillos are not constrictable so they attack fiercely with their rapiers to free their wrapped friends. The rapiers soon spilled some cold blooded guts and the constricts are released. Eight large snakes die in the trench but 27 squirrels had crushed bones and were disabled.
As the armadillos and porcupines left the trench to chase after the big snakes who went inland they were met with 50cals. TUR-TUR-TUR-TUR! Sixteen armadillos as well as 12 porcupines die. The 50cals then turn to the branches and gun down 17 flying squirrels. BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM! Howitzer explosions bring down 9 branches and another 22 flying squirrels perish. Squall radios to the others, “It seems like those D.5s main fair is to protect the sea turtles! If we attack the turtles we might reduce their numbers berfore they reach the coast! We will also be able to way the D.5s away from our island! The invading snakes will lose their air aid and our troops on the ground already outnumber them! This is the break they need! Everyone, follow me! Remember to destroy the Vulcans first!”
As the Nieuports head pass the beach, 50cals damage them. TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT! Vickers are returned and 6 corals perish along with the captured guns. The D.5s follow as predicted but before they leave the island they take injure from many 50cals that were still held by mammals inland. Flaming arrows do damage to them as well. The D.5s eliminate many branch catapults and crew members but the surviving ones can now return the favor. With no Nieuports to worry about flak clouds the sky around the retreating D.5s and cause wound.
Otters make their way underwater to hamper the sea turtles but are met with Oive Sea Snakes on guard. Eight otters die from the poison but the fierce teeth and claws of the otters kills 4 sea snakes. As the water around the surface bound swimming sea turtles turns red with blood otters surface to breathe. As the mammals draw their last breath Vulcans hailed upon them at 5 rounds per second. TIN-TIN-TIN-TIN! As the rotating barrels churned in an attempt to hit shallow otters the garter snakes miss the engine hum of the incoming Nieuports.
Vickers flared and toast 5 garters along with their PP3 powered Vulcans. The sea turtles however had armor polish and their shells were impervious to Vickers. Three sea turtles who lost their guns dive and return home. The other 2 were hit in the head and were now dead as a log. Many Howitzers loaded up with M80 fire crackers and “POW!” blasted their explosive cannon balls into the air to flak the Nieuports. The Nieuports take damage. TUT-TUT-TUT! Vickers fry 8 Howitzers and the crew.
As some defeated Howitzer turtles make a dive retreat flak ceased as D.5s came to engage. TET-TET-TIN-TIN-TET-TET-TIN-TIN! A spray of Spandaus and remaining Vulcans strike and harm all Nieuports. Mesler lookes around and can inspect countless holes in his wings. Squall looks at Kelly to see that her landing gears were gone. Zenna could see that her rearview mirror was gone and some of her gauges no longer read. She then looks at Clark and sees that he has numerous holes in his tail wings.
Clark then looks to Squall and even though Squall’s landing gear was damaged he was still the best in shape. Clark then noticed that Squall had his rudder painted blue probably beacause he wanted to be unique. In the moment of just seconds the D.5s also exchanged glances and reveal to each other that Ellison had already lost his landing gears. Some smoke was bellowing out of Lelza’s engine. Princess taps to everyone else, “One of my guns are disabled and pay mind to my father’s red rudder.” While the planes were beginning to chase each other around trying to regain hits the Vulcans had orders from Narzeth to proceed toward shore and make landing. The Howitzers remained off coast and continued to extinguish the island from there.
As the Vulcan turtles waddled onto the beach Komodo Dragons, garter snakes and Gila Monsters finally craw out of the water joining the other snakes and claiming the beach. Most of the Gila Monsters carried the Morse code radios and tapped on the J-38 straight key attatched to it. They told all team mates what the situation was. BOOM-BOOM-BOOM! Inland branch catapults arced their shots and blasted the beaches. This kills 2 Komodo Dragons and 5 Gila Monsters. Four corals along with their guns also perish.
Howitzers continuously hammered but since it was difficult to arc the shot most explosions shattered the outlying trees killing no one. Eventually a shell lands in a hospital tree hollow and kills 10 doves and 17 mammals being tended to. BOOM! Another pine cone kills a beached sea turtle and its Vulcan. A Komodo Dragon follows a garter snake into the woods then into an underground cave. Six porcupines who waited in the sad cave suddenly fling their quills at the 2 killing the garter snake.
The komodo snappily whips up a stolen shield and blocks the quills. The porcupines then yank out 2 of their own longest quills and charged with them like short spears. He might not have looked ready for a 6 to 1 melee but then Kalzein whips out 2 Katanas and with a series of special moves and slashes was able to cut down the opposition. One of the porcupines who was choking on his blood grabbed the garter snake’s crossbow and took aim.
Before he could fire the dragon dashed up and bit him on the shoulder. In the blink of an eye the porcupine succumbed to the poison. On another share of the beach Orla crawled to a quiet shore but was tired from the underwater battle. A patroling Gila sees her and drops his radio pack. He whips out 2 scimitars and charges. Quickly Orla picks up a shield and blocks. The haymakers were breaking away some of the bottle caps but just in time Shade rides on an armadillo out of the trees.
The sparrow takes aim with the carried 50cal and shoots. The Gila blocks some bullets with his scimitars but most make their way into and through his body. The monster drops dead and the 3 mammals sigh with relief. Somewhere else inland a young female rattlesnake loses her group and comes face to face with a gruff male porcupine. She was scouting with a compass and carried no weapons.
She fearfully cries out, “Please don’t hurt me! I surrender!” She is then thrown against a tree. “You venerable snake! Your kind think taking this island will be so easy!” “Wait! I don’t want to die! I’m begging you! I’m too slow to fight! I’m carrying new life and I want them to have a future!” Her words fall on deaf ears as the porcupine performs a deadly body slam with his back and impales her in multiple places.
She rattles her tail in harm for the last time and then there was silence. The porcupine then proceeds to dismember her body in several chunks with an axe and skewrs them to multiple quills on his encourage. He then walks over a hill to show off for his armadillo mate. He then says, “Hey! Check me out honey! Don’t I stare barbaric? ” Once the Porcupine pushes aside some shrubs he finds the armadillo dead from a poison bite under the neck. On her dead back a coral snake has a 50cal locked on him.
In just one glance the coral snake can glance the compass around his neck and the meat chunks dripping with blood. She knew her best friend was gone forever. In that moment she says nothing, pulls the trigger back and fires until there is nothing left of her nemesis or her ammo belt. A Gila monster soon approaches and joins the coral snake for dinner since they are both hungry.
Before the coral snake eats she takes the radio off his back and taps back a report to the desert island. The 2 eat the dead around them but lights no campfire in the fear of being discovered. Meanwhile off the coast Howitzers continued shelling and killing mammal residents who were hiding in their tree hollows. Inland catapults rupture the beach obliterating most of the captured 50cals and their crews. More continued catapult artillery then eliminates most of the Vulcan crews who were stranded on the beach.
Even though most reptiles have headed inland to wreak destruction while they make their way towards headquarters and Galthos’ office, there were still many guards left on the beach. Oliver quietly rallies any mammal who knew how to shoot a bow and organizes them behind several tree lines where the beach guards cannot gape them. Everyone begins to take their aim after lighting their projectiles up. Some mammals even used unlighted captured crossbows and began winding them up.
When Oliver whistles the order everyone shoots and arcs over the trees all the way to the beach. When the guards look up it was too late, Armageddon was about to rain on them. WHISH-WHISH-WHISH-WHISH. The hail of fire kills many snakes and lizards which was most of the guards. The surviving reptiles quickly went closer to shore and into the trench. Vulcans and 50cals begin fire but only hit the first few tree lines. No archers were ever hit. Another wave of flaming arrows fly and most of them miss but the ones that do hit kill all 12 remaining sea turtles who had their heads out thinking the coast was clear. The snakes on their backs die as well.
All turrents were unscathed. As the mammal archres were reloading the reptiles arc and fire their crossbows. Most of the poisonous bolts miss since they had no idea which tree line the party was behind. Most of the flying squirrel archers were on branches and 3 die from the bolts. Oliver then orders the surviving flying squirrels to join the rest of the mammals on the ground so when there is a counter-attack everyone can be favorable behind tree trunks.
Oliver then gets a call from a nearby C.B. that the doves have successfully extracted the injured mammals from the beach. Oliver felt a weight bewitch off his shoulders. He prepares everyone to ready the next wave and no longer worries about hitting friendlies. While in the trench a Komodo commander orders brashley for the entrenched garter snakes to risk their lives and reman the 12 vulcans and 12 50cals. Only the adults go but the adolescents were too disquieted and stayed curled up. The angry commander slices up 6 of them with his katana. Some Gilas did not like the way things were going and attacked the male commander with their scimitars opening up his belly.
A female Komodo picks up the commander’s katana and is self-promoted. She knows better than to hurt her absorb side. She then orders the guns to open fire. After a minute of loud blasting the guns cease. The archers were too many tree lines behind and none of them were injured. Out of the trees slithered a male anaconda and a female python. Both of them then roll on their sides down onto the beach while pulsating blood through their bullet holes.
A Vulcan garter snake then says, “Too bad for that lovely couple. Looks like they won’t be making love anymore.” The reptiles then hear and see arrows wisk above the trees. The entrenched reptiles crouched while the turrent snakes used captured shields. After the rain no reptiles were hurt. The entrenched reptiles started to eat the ex-commander to secure nourishment.
One of the male Gilas then say, “Their arrows aren’t working anymore, maybe we have them by the balls now.” All the sudden inland branch catapults pound the shores with countless artillery explosions. BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM! Even with the shields up most of the gun crews were eliminated along with their guns. After the smoke clears a timber pops his head above the trench and sees that only 2 vulcans and one 50cal remains with the crew that mans them standing steady.
He then looks around and sees that the trench caught a shell and 9 coral snakes lie dead in it. One male coral then begins to say, “I hope our inland warriors were able to disable some branch catapults.” A male royal python then taps a J-38 radio to check on inland catapult destruction. In a minute the radio beeps back. A male anaconda begins to read, “This is Captain Timber Rattlesnake Trosen. Twenty-two inland catapults destroyed, 62 inland 50cals captured or destroyed. Countless mammals killed. Most reptile infantry lost.”
A female coral snake then says, “Looks like they got a lot of the catapults already. But as we just experienced not enough of their artillery is out. I’ll tap back to give them our state.” During that time Oliver’s archer party prepares for another wave but then is hit by a Howitzer shell. BAM! This kills 19 of the 72. The dead were a mix of doves, gray squirrels and sparrows. The explosion stunned the party and none of them were ready when random poison bolts landed.
The reptilian crossbows claim 8 flying squirrels. Meanwhile, off the coast the planes had a fierce duel and both sides have taken extensive distress. Surprisingly all 10 are still airborne and operational. All the planes were chasing each others tails in midair loops in an attempt to secure hits. Narzeth knew his team had cramped endurance left so he knew, as a leader he would have to make his squad outperform his opponents. After Narzeth taps the orders all D.5s fan out and the Nieuports then followed.
Mesler was chasing Princess but she was just a lure. Quickly all other D.5s excluding Princess, made a quick 180 flip. The Nieuports that were in pursuit were so surprised by the move that their bursts missed and in moments the D.5s pass closely over their heads upside down, almost crashing into them. After the 4 D.5s bypassed their pursuers they locked on Mesler who was busy following the other plane.
TET-TET-TET! Suddenly Spandaus fire from the overturned planes and Mesler is accurately hit. The shattered plane had only 1 out of 4 wings left and spirals into the ocean. Mesler swims deeper and faster than he had ever done in his life. Nine Olive Sea Snakes dart to the plane’s cockpit to enact the pilot off. None of those snakes saw Mesler escape deep into the dark. The snakes could only find Mesler’s shield that he left behind. Before the serpents could enact their analysis the water flooded into the battery compartment and electricity flashed out. ZZT!
All 9 of them were electrocuted. All aircraft returned to their loop like evasive manuvers. None of them fired as everyone’s gaze was fixed on Mesler’s wreckage. Running out of air the squirrel radically makes towards the surface. With his rapier pointed straight ahead of him, Mesler punctures the under-chin of a sea turtle so he wouldn’t be noticed when he surfaces next to its neck. He silently draws air and his vision stabilizes.
He then slowly peeps above the dead turtle’s shell and sees a female garter snake busy firing continuous Howitzer rounds at the island. It seemed that there was so much shelling going on, no one noticed the turtle was dead or that Mesler’s head had surfaced. As he continued to fraction water his surrounding observation reveals his distant island had many smoke plumes.
He also saw the other fighters trying to procure hits while making loops. His glance at the wreckage site shows that his plane had completely submerged. Mesler remembers while he was in flight a radio transmission told him the beach was captured. Knowing he did not have much time left before he was noticed he made a drastic move.
The squirrel slips to the back of the turtle and the Howitzer. He then hops onto the shell and stabs the occupied snake in a kidney. Mesler then swirls around and cuts the benefit of the neck. With his enemy dead he fleet lowers the cannon’s aim and loads the M80 and cannon ball. He briskly whips help the chain link and the projectile is blasted out. POW!
In moments a distant explosion in the beach trench kills 2 Komodos. All the other cannon operators turn their heads towards Mesler and then quickly load their crossbows. The squirrel dives and swam toward the island as lickety-split as he could. Bolts hover and by chance miss Mesler. Zenna could see the action unfold below and quicly leaves the fight. The D.5s decide not to pursue her as they thought now was a better chance of destroying the remaining 3 Nieuports.
Zenna reduces her rush and altitude and yells, “Mesler! Grab hold of this!” She then tosses out a long rope attached to her seat structure. Mesler grabs hold but then Howitzers blast the slow intriguing plane. The bottom wings were blown off as well as the landing gears and rudder. Mesler wiggles in mid-air to dodge the falling debries. Howitzers were ready to fire again but then receive orders from the queen via J-38, “Discontinuance aiming so extreme. The plane is too far and if you miss you might hit our troops on the beach. Continue shooting over the plane to hit inland residence structures. Over.”
Mesler in no time, climbs his way into the cockpit with Zenna. When their crippled plane approached the beach the 3 turrents opened fire on them causing damage. Zenna’s engine smoked and one of her guns were disabled. Unable to manuver properly she fires into the trench and kills a male anaconda.
Zenna was no longer able to pitch the plane up so Mesler quickly radios in a distress and Zenna prepares the plane for a wreck landing. They only got 271 meters into the forest before crashing into a tree. The plane radio was destroyed but the 2 were able to climb down. They moved quickly with their equipment as cannon balls blew up around them. When they got further inland Mesler says, “The shells have stopped. This can’t be good. We must be approach an enemy camp.”
Bushes rustled as pythons moved to surround them. Rapiers and katanas clash as the 2 defend against 6. Unbiased when the katana blows were getting more serious, arrows strike and kill 3 snakes. The squirrels ogle up to see a male dove and male owl. The other snakes retreat and are met with 50cal fire from a portable turrent consisting of an male armadillo and male sparrow. TUR-TUR-TUR! After the pythons are killed the owl says, “We got your distress call.”
Then everyone hears beeping from a J-38 radio. The dove then says, “I bet it’s to check on the camp status. If they get no response or a substandard one from us they’ll begin blasting here. We’d better leave now.” With that said everyone salvaged some equipment including the J-38 and went to an underground cave to hide. In the cave the group discovers 4 armadillo bodies. The sparrow then says, “By the look of the body coloration they died recently. I’ve seen this kind of death before. It’s Gila Monster poison. They must’ve had a brawl a short distance from here and were bitten in vulnerable places. Then they probably escaped relieve to this cave but the Gilas did not follow them.”
The dove then replies, “If only I was there with my antidotes I could have saved them. I have the antidote for that poison.” The owl then says, “Look over there. They were probably camping in here because there is a C.B. They might have sent a message for medical help but all paramedics were too busy.” Zenna then begins to say, “I’ll consume the radio to give Squall and Galthos our situation.”
Zenna then proceeds to turn on the radio and since the green light came on the PP3 inside was still working. She then adjusts it for 2 frequencies which will reach Galthos and Squall at the same time. Zenna holds the mic key and says, “This is Zenna. Two Nieuports down. Mesler is alright. We have killed 6 pythons but sight 4 dead armadillos. Over.” Squall, who was still making evasive loops radios to the other Nieuports. “Here’s a morale boost for you guys. Zenna and Mesler made it!”
With more confidence in his heart Squall decides to do a risky stunt. He flies close and underneath Ellison to taunt him. Squall then fires a burst into the distance and Ellison looks down and sees him. The Nieuport then makes a lively dive and the D.5 follows. When Ellison had a lock, Squall quickly springs loose a parachute from his tail shaft by pushing a button. The D.5 opens fire, but since he cannot spy well with the parachute in the way only Squall’s rudder receives damage.
The Nieuport looses speed dramatically so Squall pitches up only a tiny. Ellison plows through the parachute and pass Squall’s landing gears. The gears and the D.5′s upper 2 wings break off but now Squall has lock on a disabled plane. Ellison pulls at his filght stick but the coast and tail ailerons he had left were too damaged from earlier combat.
With his plane unable to manuver he mercurial takes off his belt and ducks at the bottom of the cockpit. Squall seizes the opportunity and fires. TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT! Bullets tear away at what was left of the tail. Squall pitches up a little and shoots down into the cockpit in an attempt to kill the pilot. The low lying cobra was not hit but his flight stick and gauges were being destroyed.
The Nieuport fires another burst and this time the bullets cut through the gauge displays and into the battery housing. One of the PP3s were hit several times and then all of them exploded. KABOOM! The explosion was so fierce that Ellison’s body was scattered and Squall could feel the shockwave. Something lands in Squall’s lap and he looked to see some cooked cobra ribs. He was hungry and decided to experience the new flavor.
Squall then said to himself, “This isn’t so bad. Maybe there will be more of this for everyone when we acquire home.” The plane uses its rudder and yaws around to return to combat. With the D.5s explosion seen from an island tree where a broad group of sparrows watched with binoculars their morale was raised. The sparrows chattered for a few minutes and all unanimously agreed to charge at an opposing plane by flying there with there own wings.
One of the sparrows then says, “There is a chance most of us could gain there because of our large group of 55.” All of the birds flew out with all their might. BAM! Just by luck a Howitzer shell blows up their hollow right after they left. TUR-TUR-TUR! Captured inland 50cals fire toward the sky and end 7 sparrows. BOOM-BOOM! Soon captured inland catapults flak them killing 19 sparrows. As they made it pass the beach the the 3 turrents and crossbows fire killing another 13. The birds flew toward the off coast aerial combat but were soon met by Howitzer flak. BAM-BAM-BAM!
When the flak ceased they were getting discontinuance to the D.5s but only 9 survive. Lelza’s plane had extensive aileron damage and was the slowest one to maneuver. This made it easy for the sparrows to quickly hop in her cockpit. With all their might they attack the queen with their beaks and talons while flapping their wings as distraction. She quickly bites and kills one male sparrow. Then she whips out her katana and kills a female one.
With no room for the sword to swing she drops it during the struggle and fires her crossbow which kills another female sparrow. The remaining male birds tear away flesh and soon organs. The cockpit and partial exterior of the D.5 was covered with blood. None of the other planes saw Lelza’s D.5 fly off course as they were busy chasing each others tails. The queen was stunned from hurt and allowed a sparrow to exhaust a powerful beak plunge right into the back of her skull.
The power peck penetrated her brain killing her instantly. One of the sparrows then says, “We did it. Look out there boys. The Howitzer crews have grabbed their crossbows because they know we’re in here. If we hover out, we have no hope. But engage a look at that.” Another sparrow looks at where he was pointing and then responds, “I see a dead sea turtle but the cannon on its back has been remanned by a male garter.”
Another sparrow then says, “I heard from our radio earlier that Mesler killed the turtle and the original snake that manned the cannon.” “I heard that on the radio too. This plane is almost out of power. I guess we can crash it into the stranded cannon.” In a moment all the sparrows nodded with agreement and together they put their wings on the bloody flight stick and maneuvered it slowly towards their target.
All Howitzers attempt to swivel toward the plane but were too heavy and too slow. Soon it was too late. KABOOM! The plane smashes into the cannon causing a large explosion fueled by the batteries and the ammo pile next to the turrent. The birds and the snakes are blown to pieces and the dead turtle’s body was severed into 2 by the blast. As the water turned red with turtle blood Princess heard the blast and finally looks around and notices her mother was missing.
She sees the Howitzer wreckage and flys to it without thinking. Too anxious about the queen’s fate she does not know that Clark left the scuffle and followed her. She lowers her altitude and hasten to get a better look and only sees flames and debries. She sighed and expected the worse. She then hears the cannon operators shout at her.
“Princess! Look behind you!” She then turns her head to gape the attacking Nieuport. Crossbows launch shooting at Clark’s propeller when he got close. This slowed him down and did minor hurt but he was already in striking range. TUT-TUT-TUT! Vickers fire as Princess ascends quickly by increasing her throttle and pitch. Bullets strike her engine, upper wings, cockpit, tail shaft and tail. By the time she got high enough out of Clark’s range she felt pain. Her quick assessment reveals an exit wound by a single bullet through her liver. She grabs the first aid kit and puts a gauze pressure wrapping on but blood was still hemorrhaging.
Clark then C.B.s the other pilots. “I’m going back into the scuffle in evasive formation. I judge I disabled Princess’s plane. Looks like she’s heading toward the beach for back. I’m not gonna follow cause the Howitzer’s be on me if I get into flak range. Also the beach weapons might spring on me if I gain too close. Over.”
Princess then taps to Narzeth, “Father, my deepest sympathy for you that mother and I have lost our lives. You and I must do what we can for our homeland while we still breathe. Your loving daughter, Princess. Over.” Narzeth and Calahan receives the message at the same time and both try to hold back tears as they peformed loop to loop evasive maneuvers. Clark has yet to return to the scuffle. Reptiles on the beach cheer as she flies inland.
A male timber in the trench then says, “I’m grateful she sent us the message that went to her father.” Princess remembers that her spies had told her by morse code earlier that an ammuniton depot was an inland tree with few branches. The tree was volitile so it was in a place where artillery might never reach. She flew in a fast straight line since there was no worry of enemy aircraft.
At her speed 50cals only scored a few hits doing minor damage to her hull and flak continuously missed. In a few minutes she approached her final destination. She aimed her plane at the middle hollow where gray squirrels were guarding as a 50cal crew. Their gun was fixed toward the bushes aiming at any possible ground assault. By the time they heard and saw her plane fly over the last tree line it was too late.
TUR-TUR-TUR! The mammals opened fire on her destroying her propeller and engine but she was only 5 meters away and flew into the hollow anyway. The plane crashes into the crew while the wings atomize off outside the hollow. When the D.5 stopped Princess breathes heavily from the massive blood loss. Her vision blurs but she sees the pine cone stacks next to a lot of 50cal belts and hears the electricity crackle from her batteries.
She takes a deep breath, smiles, and then closes her eyes. KABOOM! Her batteries erupt causing a chain reaction that destroys the entire 27 foot high tree. The explosion was so poweful 7 distant mammal camps were wiped out. The reptiles on the beach cheered when they felt the rumble and see the stout mushroom cloud. They all knew the fate of the D.5. Galthos’ headquarters was damaged by the shockwave but he was still alive.
He radios to the Nieuports not knowing how the depot was destroyed. “Pilots! We lost one of our ammunition depots! Half our army’s ammo is lost! Over!” Both the cobras and the squirrels in the air look to where they heard the explosion and see the mushroom cloud. Clark then barks on the radio, “Darn it! I didn’t think she’d make it that far! Over!” Calahan was the first to wreck from the gaze and shoots Kelly from behind damaging her upper wings and destroying their fly ailerons.
With all wing ailerons gone she could no longer do loops. She flies at max rush out into the ocean but Calahan shoots from above and leisurely. Kelly’s engine takes serious damage and begins to flame. Her guns were also disabled. With her race dropping Calahan moves in from behind for the kill. While Calahan checks his guns she fleet climbs to the top of her upper wings with her rapier to avoid the flames spreading to the cockpit.
She then does a high backward backflip and lands on the D.5 with her rapier as an anchor. She anchors onto Calahan’s right upper wing. KABOOM! Just moments later her plane explodes. The other 3 planes could see the blast from a distance but could do miniature about it since Narzeth was a difficult opponent to aim at. The King Cobra throws his katana right when Clark was behind him and the Nieuport’s propeller was struck.
With one of his propeller blades’ tip missing he slows and can no longer chase. Clark flies around below the 2 planes and make attempts to shoot Narzeth with his longbow. Meanwhile Calahan takes off his goggles and slithers to the top of his wings with his katana, intending to achieve Kelly off in a duel.
She felt a bit wobbley standing on two feet while on a biplane and holding a rapier. Calahan however, seems to have no problem. He then said, “It might be less painful for you if you jump.” “I’m not afraid of you. I’m part mongoose!” Kelly lied. “We will see how many parts you could be when I’m finished with you!” He exclaimed.
The 2 dueled and soon Kelly missed a block and got a thigh slash. Her adrenalin was running so she felt little pain. She fends off a few blows and manages to stab him in the left hood. Calahan hissed and showed his fangs. She now had to watch his teeth and his sword. Instinctively she removes her goggles with her other hand to see better. Then she charges with low section swipes and causes the plane to tilt toward Calahan’s side.
He blocks then stabs his sword down to avoid slipping. Quickly she sees he is off defense and stabs him in the midsection. As his blood oozed out she spun around for a strong slash. He was able to draw up his katana fast enough and slash her in the back, while she was in mid-motion. She could feel her right kidney moving out so she decisively presses it back in while seething in pain.
He sees the opportunity and tries to bite her head and stab her in the abdomen at the same time. She quickly shoves her goggles vertically in his mouth to jam him open and jumps to avoid the low stab. She then forcefully reaches into his midsection wound and fishes out a gonad with her claws. He was stunned in pain so she quickly whips around a 360 slash and beheads him. His corpse falls off the plane and Kelly tries the organ to stave off her hunger.
After a bite she hops in the plane and uses Calahan’s first aid kit to pressure wrap her befriend and thigh wounds. Then she fires the guns to check it. Only one fires as the other one was disabled by earlier damage. The J-38 radio beeps but she cannot acknowledge. She looks around and sees an unfamiliar cockpit of the enemy. She rolls and pitches to turn it aid to the distant fight.
Back at the scuffle Clark has stopped shooting arrows because it was no consume. Clark decides to go after the 11 remaining Howitzers below. TUT-TUT-TUT-TUT!The Nieuport, not able to move as posthaste as it could normally, takes out 2 cannons and crew including the turtles. Squall was busy chasing and being chased in loops to distract Narzeth from going after Clark. TUT-TUT-TUT! Clark swoops down and takes out another Howitzer crew as crossbows shoot from the operators.
Narzeth sees the D.5 return and taps to Calahan. “Get Squall off my back when I fly by you!” Narzeth then beams toward Kelly at flank speed. Kelly sees the easy and unsuspecting target and aims where her shots could not miss. When the moment of truth came she fires and hits Narzeth’s engine 4 times. Smoke puffed up and blinded the surprised cobra as his plane lost engine power and began to uninteresting.
Squall came in from above and behind and let loose the bullets of judgement. TUT-TUT-TUT! The continuous fire cut the choking king in half and his plane plummeted into the blue. In a minute all the other planes joined together and flew around in a circle watching the red ruddered plane submerge into the ocean. The last 16 sea snakes swarm in to make as much of a save as they can.
When the plane submerges completely there was a sudden underwater explosion. KABOOM! Soon there was bloody water again and the meat chunks of the king and his followers floated. Squall radios in to H.Q. “The king’s dethroned, permanently. Over.” Kelly moves closer to Squall and yells since she cannot radio. “Squall! Radio Clark and tell him that both of you should follow me! We’ll surprise their artillery because they don’t know I hijacked this plane!”
Squall radios the message to Clark and they both fall behind her forming a triangle. Kelly leads the way toward the cannons who were blasting the island again. The planes dive and spurr bullets. TUT-TUT-TET-TUT-TUT-TET! The sweep claim 3 of 8 cannons and snakes. The 3 turtles survive and dive to escape. The confused crews decides to flak all the planes including the D.5. The Howitzers were slow to reload and cumbersome to aim at fast moving planes.
By the time they were ready to flak again another machine gun sweep puts another 3 into submission. Three snakes plunge dead again one turtle cannot make a dive retreat because Squall started shooting its head first. The last 2 artillery retreat and the garter snakes jump into the water to swim underneath the turtles as cover. The 2 turtles commence to dive. Clark couldn’t move fast enough this time but Squall and Kelly could so they aimed separately and hailed upon the ammo caches on the turtles backs. TUT-TUT-TET-TUT-TUT-TET!
KABOOM-KABOOM! Two simutaneous explosions splahed water into the air. When the mist of water cleared all 3 of them had the sight of bloody water and turtles chunks. The 2 retreating snakes survived the blast but were soon plucked from the surface and chewed up by the now worry free otters. This fills the ocean with more blood. Galthos in his office orders all his forces to construct a solid line and push the remaining inland invaders to the beach trench.
The owl then clicked on his mic again and gave the details. “This is the chance we had been waiting for. With our opponents leadership on the rocks we can use my blitz tactic to flush them out. All porcupines are to grab bottle cap shields and beget the front line. I heard the cannons are gone so it should be easy to organize. Behind the shield bearers will be all our armadillos and gray squirrels honorable of forming 50cal crews. Behind the crews will be gray squirrel archers who will shoot in arcs and reman a gun if a crew member is killed. The gray squirrels not able to use a longbow will fling with the archers during the arrive and carry radios, ammo belts, batteries and additional arrows for our archers. All flying squirrels will be in the branches on the tree line facing the beach. They will be archers from there. All birds are to extract our wounded to the hospital tree. Gray squirrels that are experienced with catapults will man the surviving artillery and fire on the beach when I give the order. I will scrutinize from Sentry Point and radio in further orders. Good luck to you all.”
As the 3 planes return to the island Clark radios to all troops. “This is Clark. Do not shoot the D.5 for it is Kelly. Remember what Galthos said. Do not set foot on the beach as artillery is planned for the enemy’s trench. Use the last tree line as cover and fire ranged weapons. Over.” As the biplanes approached the beach the Nieuports flew closely slow Kelly to consume her as a shield. The pilots knew the reptiles will hold off anti-aircraft gestures to not risk damaging their last supposed ally in the air.
The entrenched warriors cheered as they see the expected D.5 return. Clark then radios to Squall. “They don’t have a clue that the D.5 has been commandeered. Let’s take advantage of their cluelessness and each of us destroy a turrent.” Squall then yells the same orders to kelly. When the planes came within striking distance they broke formation and streamed shells at the turrents. TUT-TUT-TET-TUT-TUT-TET! Kelly destroys the 50cal while her 2 cohorts knock out the 2 Vulcans. The operators were also killed.
A male garter snake then says, “I can’t have this! Those were our last guns! Has that pilot gone AWOL! Commander, what do we do!” The new Komodo commander responds, “Everyone stay in the trench! Shoot your crossbows and throw spare swords at planes and infantry that come by!” Scared cries rang out as the remaining inland invaders rush out of the forest and into the trench.
A retreating male python calls out, “Their blitzing us with portable 50cals! They are in a solid wave with shield carriers! We can’t gain through and they managed to push us back here!” In due time flying squirrels land on the branches and began shooting into the trench at an angle with flame shots and some with stolen crossbows. TWING-TWING-TWANG-TWING-TWING-TWANG! Some shields are raised but projectiles manage to kill 2 anacondas.
The reptiles shoot back at the branches and slay 4 flying squirrels. A group of girl garter snakes had no shield and curled up in a frightend bunch. A male Komodo then says to them, “Be not frightened for I am Kalzein your new protector.” He then crawled out of the trench to face the tree line. Then he stood on his 2 feet and drew from his sheaths twin katanas.
A male coral snake yells at him, “What do you think you’re doing!? Another wave of arrows are about to fire! Are you nuts!? You’re probably gonna become the well-known target! Get back down here!” Five male flying squirrels on one branch began to chatter. “Isn’t that the lizard that left a cave with the dead porcupines in it.” “You are right. I saw him leave the cave.” “Let’s focus our shots on him.” Soon arrows fire and 6 timbers are wounded. Kalzein deflects 7 arrows with his swords by whisking around right moves. The 8th arrow he blocks by turning around and whiping his tail at it.
While garter snake paramedics tend to the wounded a timber dies from bleeding. The commander looks at Kalzein in awe. The reptiles fire back at the branches and Kalzein drops his katanas and grabs 2 loaded crossbows on his back. All reptiles shoot and Kalzein hits 2 flying squirrels in the leg who in seconds succumbs to his Komodo poison. Nine flying squirrels were killed by the other bolts and 4 wounded. Out of the blue, doves carrying miniature stretchers fly in and carry away the dead and wounded.
Two more wounded flying squirrels die in mid-flight from timbers’ poison arrows. Another flaming wave of arrows launch but this time Kalzein just ducked and was missed by 3 shots. Other shots kill 4 pythons and 3 Gilas while many arrows met with shields and sand. Then out of the woods charged 3 male gray squirrels with rapiers drawn to kill Kalzein. The dragon picks up his swords and professionally blocks the blows.
When Kalzein got the opening he quickly makes an outward scissor cut and beheads his adversaries. As crossbows make a return Kalzein throws all 3 rapiers but only one sword kills a female flying squirrel. The bolts kill 9 and injure 2. Oliver calls into the radio from a branch. “Where are those slow guns! We’re getting killed out here!” Longbows shoot again and Kalzein claps 4 arrows on the shaft before they hit his chest. Three Komodos and 7 coral snakes die from the raining flame.
Two male porcupines charge out of the trees with a long quill spear in each hand. Kalzein rolled his eyes as if he were watching a rerun. His 2 katanas slash the spears in half and stabs both mammals in their chest. Before they die of bleeding their brain dies from the Komodo poisoned swords. Crossbows give a poisoned return and Kalzein spins a body around and releases it toward the branches. The incoming dead ball of spikes smacks into 2 flying squirrels and knocks them to the ground doing injury.
Kalzein does the same with the other porcupine body and it smashes a branch radio. The bolts this time kill 14 flying squirrels and injure 10. The branched mammals were expeditiously to give them an echo and arrows go airborne. Kalzein performs a series of help steps and slashes to block the projectiles. As blood sprayed the trench walls 15 snakes and lizards drop dead.
One male coral snake then says, “This arrow in my tail has my species’ poison. It won’t kill me.” Kalzein then yells to his troops, “Here comes their feathered rescue! Let’s roll out the welcome mat!” All reptiles aim their crossbows at both the branched flying squirrels and the owls with sparrows carrying stretchers. Bolts fly and 27 mammals and birds die as 17 are wounded. Doves fly in after the attack wave to administer antidotes. Before the mammals could reload, katanas and scimitars advance whirling in. The spinning swords demolish 9 birds and 2 flying squirrels.
Meanwhile the 3 planes were too damaged to do combat so they land at an airstrip near H.Q. Squall had to break land because his gears are gone. This destroys his propeller. Quickly the 3 squirrels climb a tree and ready a crewless catapult.
Back at the pine trees Oliver and the others on the branches cheers as they looked toward the ground and see the 3 solid lines of infantry walk toward the beach but stop before touching the sands. Crossbows strike at the infantry but porcupine shields repel all shots. A mix of branch arrows, arced ground arrows and 50cal fire showers the reptiles. Kalzein blocks many arrows but only a few bullets with his swords. The .50 caliber shells were just too snappily and he is struck 2 times in the chest and 2 times in the belly.
The dragon falls back into the trench and then says, “Don’t worry girls. I got a thick hide.” The garter girls tend to his wounds and easily assume out the 4 bullets which only cause shrimp flesh wounds. Many snakes and lizards continue to collapse in pools of blood as the mammal projectiles were now non-stop. Crossbows fire in desperate defense and only waste a few mammals.
A female Gila in the trench tries to radio by way of J-38 straight key. “This is Beach Defense to King Narzeth. We are pinned down and need reinforcements. Over.” Artillery soon lands on the beach causing a multitude of explosions in random places. Sea turtle bodies are hit and body parts fly. An explosion lands in the trench killing 11 snakes and lizards. The Gila tries again after one crucial minute of waiting, “This is Beach Defense to Queeen Lelza. The king is not responding. Artillery and infantry have us pinned down. Requesting reinforcements. Over.” While waiting a minute for a response the Gila is killed by an arrow through the neck.
The Komodo Commander picks up where she left off. “This is Commander Raleena to Generals Ellison and Calahan. The royal family is presumed boring. We are taking massive casualties from ranged infantry and artillery. We are only inflicting minor casualties on them with just our crossbows. Requesting either of your orders. Over.”
After one minute of waiting, casualties mounted in the trench and Raleena knew with the royal family dead and the head leaders gone the battle might as well be lost. She then taps to the others fighting in the trench. “This is your commander. With the royals that followed us into battle wearisome, our island will no longer send reinforcements. I give the order to retreat when the 50cals load novel belts. I wish to see many of you after the swim back home. Good-bye for now.”
Soon all 50cals were empty simutaneously and began loading belts and new batteries. Most reptiles drop their equipment and ran for the shore. The stronger males dragged the wounded as quickly as they could. Kalzein puts the girls on his back and a shield on top of them and runs on fours. Artillery and arrows attack the naked retreat killing 167. Arrows bounced off Kalzein’s shield and Raleena was the fastest and first to the water.
After all the reptiles enter the water, artillery and arrows stop. Quickly the otters moved in and expected an easy finish since there were no sea snakes. They were wrong. Not all the snakes drop so easily victim as the garters. Pythons and anacondas constricted underwater causing suffocation and crushed otter bones. All the lizards and snakes were trained in underwater fighting and most of them were poisonous. Many of them made clean hits and bit a lot of otters causing a lot of mammal casualties.
Otters continuously charged Kalzein thinking he was an easier target because he was carrying 2 swords. The dragon acted as if he were a water god as he cuts down all incoming without the drag of water affecting his speed. Warm blood spreads as 22 otters float dead above the surface. All killed by one opponent. Many other otters die elsewhere during the phenomenal struggle and the surviving ones now knew better than to chase down the retreating reptilian army.
Raleena was never caught in the fight because of her magnificent accelerate. As the otters craw to shore with Orla everyone cheered and began celebrating. The armadillos were just as happy starting their job immediately by increasing the size of the inland mammal cemetary. The sun was setting on a long day and porcupines began grilling reptile meat for supper. Galthos was handing out medals and those who were not too injured were brought from the hospital to join the beach celebration. Squall then said to Kelly, “Ellison’s ribs do taste better glazed with maple sap then grilled.” Kelly responds, “Calahan’s gonad tastes fine raw. At least you come by to keep the rib bones as a souvenier.” Zenna then began to speak to Mesler, “Here, try some of my anaconda spleen. I think it’s good.” Mesler then responds, “How romantic that you’d give it to me with your bite marks on it. Heh heh.” Orla then says to Clark, “Nice medal around your neck, what’s it for? ” “Oh, this thing. It’s for destroying Howitzers.” Shade then says to Oliver, “I wish my sister was here to see this day.” “I’m sure your sister would be proud of us and especially you.” As the sun disappears behind the oceanic horizon so does its reflection. With the day ending it also marks the end of The Battle of The Bloods. The End.
